 Qingdao
University (QU) is located in Qingdao, Shandong Province and
has a very beautiful academic setting. Accredited by the National Committee
of Education and Shandong Provincial Government in 1993, this university
is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in Shandong.
Famous for their aim "To be open-minded, internationalized and high-graded",
it is one of the 200 universities authorized to accept foreign students.
The university is well known for their art and professional education
concerning foreign affairs and international exchange programs have been
developed to cooperate with more than 40 universities and organizations
from many countries and regions. Furthermore, the university has links
with many provincial and municipal enterprises and has also built cooperation
with Haier, Hisense, Blue Goose and Double Star to develop specialty research
institutes.

University occupies an area of 1,700,000 square meters and has 1,100,000
square meters of university buildings. It comprises 25 colleges and 73
specialties with undergraduate programs in literature, history, philosophy,
law, economics, management, natural sciences, engineering, medical science,
education, and many more. Currently, there are more than 32,000 students
including 700 foreign students, who come from more than 20 countries.
Students can be accepted to study in every discipline, across all of
the university's 25 colleges and 73 specialties, including history, philosophy,
law, economics, management, natural science, engineering, medical science,
and education, provided the students have met the university entry requirements
for each program. There are 25 provincial key disciplines, laboratories
and engineering research centers. There are also six specialties with
doctoral programs and 60 specialties with masters programs.
Qingdao University College of Foreign Languages and Literature offers
Mandarin Chinese programs to overseas students. Short-term and long-term
programs are available for students of all levels and interests. Short-term
programs are 4 weeks in length and are only held during the summer holidays,
while long-term programs can be for one semester (20 weeks) or one year.
Optional elective courses are also available three times a week, which
include Chinese kung fu, painting, calligraphy, and tai chi, among other
options.
The university enjoys a high quality and experienced teachers. There
are more than 4,000 staff and faculty members, including professors, associate
professors and doctors. It has a large number of internationally renowned
scholars in many fields, including Chinese Language, Literature and History.
In recent years, Qingdao University is focusing more on becoming an internationalized
comprehensive university with emphasis on its openness to the world.
The Mandarin Chinese Language Department has more than 40 teachers who
teach Mandarin Chinese to international students. All teachers are expert
native Chinese speakers, fully qualified and have many years of experience.
Certified by the Chinese Ministry of Education, these teachers are professional,
friendly and always there to help students improve their Mandarin Chinese
ability.
Library
As the largest library in Shandong Province, it has 3 million books and
more than 4,700 periodicals. Students can find many kinds of books, Chinese
newsletters, Chinese bulletins, foreign bulletins, newspapers, and electronic
version of Chinese and foreign bulletins. This library covers an area
of 18,900 square meters, is located in the center of campus. Surrounded
by Fushan Mountain and the Yellow Sea, this library is the perfect place
to study.
Equipped with modern facilities, such as digital facilities, computers,
scanner, copy machine, printers and many more, many students come here
daily. The classrooms are clean and very modern; every class is equipped
with advanced teaching equipment, such as advanced audio and video teaching
devices, giving students a good environment to study.

Recreation Facilities
Qingdao University provides a gymnasium and many sports facilities, such
as tennis courts, basketball courts, badminton courts, football courts,
volleyball courts and running tracks. Alternatively, students can try
the beaches for some swimming, diving, sailing, jet skiing or surfing.
Another way to relax is for students to visit Qingdao's numerous beautiful
old buildings.
Laundry
The dormitories for international students are equipped with washing
machines on every floor. Students need to purchase a magnetic card to
use the washing machines. Dry cleaning is also available inside campus,
making student life very convenient.
Banking
Inside the campus, students can find a China Construction Bank and a
24 hours ATM. Students can handle all banking activities there, including
deposit and withdrawal, exchange of foreign currency and money transfer.
Medical Care
A Chinese clinic is available inside the Qingdao University campus, with
Chinese-speaking doctors. Students can also buy Chinese medicine there.
This clinic is open 24 hours everyday.
The Qingdao Dongbu Private Hospital, which is the biggest hospital in
Qingdao, has high quality and experienced foreign and Chinese doctors.
The pharmacy provides Western and Chinese medicine at a reasonable price.
The hospital is also open 24 hours everyday and just 10 minutes away by
car from Qingdao University.

Food & Groceries
Breakfast, lunch and dinner with low prices are available at the dining
room. The dining room serves many kinds of low-priced Chinese foods,
usually just costing around RMB 10 ¨C15 a day. There are also a lot of
Korean restaurants in front of the gate, and some Western restaurants,
just a15 minutes walk from the university.
If students need to buy groceries, they can go to a grocery store on
campus. Students will not have any problem finding anything they need,
such as fruit, food, drink, snacks and much more. A big grocery store
and book store can be reached within 20 minutes walk from the university.
Postal Services
Students can find a post office inside the Qingdao University campus,
so it is very convenient to send and receive mail and packages.
The university offers single and double rooms in foreign dormitories.
All rooms are equipped with a telephone, toilet, television, air conditioner,
and heater. Internet connection is available for an additional charge
(students generally have to pay RMB 100 per month to use the internet).
